Walk Leader Training comes to Staffordshire Moorlands!

We recently delivered our first Walk Leader Training in the Staffordshire Moorlands, at Cheadle Bowling Club. The course was attended by local walkers, volunteers, and staff from MyActive Leisure Centres in Leek and Cheadle.
The Walk Leader course is run by staff from Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, as part of the Move More Staffordshire Moorlands strategy, aimed at increasing participation in physical activity and breaking down barriers for communities.
The walking strategy is to develop short neighbourhood walks in local areas, predominantly for those who are not currently active or have medical conditions which limit the amount of walking they can do.
Walk Leader Training is designed to equip individuals with the skills and knowledge to confidently and safely run a local walk. We will go through themes, such as; benefits and barriers to walking and physical activity, understanding the roles and responsibilities of a Walk Leader, what goes in to planning a short walk (Plan/mapping, risk assessment, emergency action plan, etc).
How to join Walk Leader Training
As part of the Move More Staffordshire Moorlands strategy to get residents more active, Staffordshire Moorlands District Council offer funded Walk Leader training to assist in delivering led walks for organisations and groups within the Staffordshire Moorlands area.
We are currently exploring plans to bring Walk Leader training to Leek and Biddulph. If you would be interested in getting involved, please contact us at info@movemorestaffsmoorlands.co.uk
