Improvements at Hot Lane Playing Field, Biddulph Moor
The Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, in partnership with the Biddulph Moor Community Association and Moor First School, has successfully completed a series of important improvements to the Hot Lane Playing Fields in Biddulph Moor. This project focused on enhancing accessibility, recreational opportunities, and safety for the local community.
“It’s pulled so many elements of the community together, the School, the Community Association, the District Council. So, it’s been a real good community project!” – Cllr. John Jones
Key improvements included the creation of a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA), which offers a versatile space for various sports and activities. New benches were installed, providing rest areas for visitors, while an upgraded path was constructed, making it easier to navigate the new features of the site. Importantly, the path was extended to reach the community orchard at the bottom of the field, encouraging more people to explore and enjoy the area.
A core element of this project was a strong emphasis on disability access, ensuring that the facilities cater to people of all abilities. The paths are now wheelchair-friendly, enabling everyone in the community to enjoy time outdoors, whether for recreation, relaxation, or exercise.
One of the most significant additions is the path extension that links the Playing Fields to neighbouring Moor First School, allowing students to safely access the MUGA without needing to walk along the road. This improvement not only enhances safety but also encourages physical activity and outdoor play for young children.
The collaboration between the Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, Biddulph Moor Community Association and Moor First School has resulted in a more inclusive and accessible public space that benefits all members of the community, fostering greater connection, physical activity, and well-being.
