Cheadle Strolls: Community Walks Bring Nature, Connection, and Wellbeing to Cheadle

On Tuesday 29th April, the beautiful Cecilly Brook Nature Reserve in Cheadle came alive with the steady footsteps and warm chatter of local residents taking part in two gentle walks organised by Deb Boden, Cheadle’s place-based Move More worker. The event, run in collaboration with the Staffordshire Moorlands Walking Festival, welcomed participants of all abilities to enjoy the outdoors, connect with others, and take a meaningful step toward better health and wellbeing.
Designed with accessibility in mind, the 30-minute walks were ideal for those new to walking, anyone looking to build up their fitness, or individuals who find it difficult to get out on their own. The scenic route along Cecilly Brook offered not just a peaceful setting, but also a gentle invitation to experience the joys and benefits of walking.
“It was just what I needed,” said one participant. “Sometimes it’s hard to get out on your own, but having friendly faces and a beautiful path to follow makes all the difference.”
Walking has long been recognised as one of the simplest yet most effective forms of physical activity. It not only supports physical health by reducing the risk of major conditions like heart disease and type 2 diabetes but also boosts mental wellbeing, improves sleep, and fosters social connection.
Looking Ahead: Call for Volunteers
Due to the success and positive feedback from the April walks, there’s a strong desire to keep them going regularly. To do this, we’re calling on local volunteers who would be interested in leading similar low-level walks in the future. If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a trained walk leader, please contact us at info@movemorestaffsmoorlands.co.uk.

Join the Movement
No matter your age or ability, there’s something special about walking in good company. We’d love to hear from others across the Staffordshire Moorlands who are organising their own walks, nature meetups, or any other outdoor activities. Let’s celebrate the ways we stay healthy, connected, and inspired in our beautiful green spaces.
