Walk Leaders

As part of the Move More Staffordshire Moorlands strategy to get residents more active, Staffordshire Moorlands District Council are offering funded Walk Leader training to assist in delivering led walks for organisations and groups within the Staffordshire Moorlands area.

The walking strategy is to develop short neighbourhood walks in local areas, predominantly for those who are not currently active or have medical conditions which limit the amount of walking they can do, or other individual needs where longer walks out into the Peak District may not at present be suitable. With walks in local parks, around circular neighbourhood routes or as part of town trails and special events, we would like to train more local walk leaders to work with local partners and groups.

Walk leader training will equip you with the skills and knowledge to confidently and safely run a local walk. The Move More partner organisations can offer you existing routes and maps if you don’t want to plan your own and other support to help you begin your walk leader journey, either with them as a volunteer walk leader or by assisting with advice on how to set up your own group walk.

Anyone who loves walking can potentially become a walk leader – but if you’re not quite ready for that responsibility, we’ll also be looking at Walk Buddy training – where you’ll still learn the skills and information about Led Walks but won’t have to plan or lead a walk.
