Walking for Health in Werrington

Every Tuesday, a friendly and welcoming group gathers at Wetley Moor Common to enjoy a leisurely walk, connect with nature, and embrace the many benefits of staying active. While many members are older adults, the group is open to everyone who enjoys walking at a relaxed pace in good company.

These walks are about more than just exercise—they’re a chance to build friendships, share stories, and enjoy the peace and beauty of the great outdoors. The group is self-guided, with members walking together as friends, taking turns to suggest routes, and each person looking after their own safety. It’s a simple, flexible approach that works for everyone.

The walks usually last around an hour and a half (3 miles) and follow accessible, low-level trails that highlight the stunning scenery and diverse wildlife of Wetley Moor Common.

Voices from the Trail

Mike: “Walking has been a fantastic way to stay active and meet new friends. The scenery is beautiful, and I always look forward to our Tuesday walks.”

Ian: “I love the sense of community we have. It’s not just about the exercise—it’s about the friendships we’ve built over the years. Wetley Moor Common is the perfect place for our walks.”

Josephine: “Being part of this group has really improved my health. I feel more energetic and connected to nature. Plus, the wildlife we see is always a treat!”

Wetley Moor Common, maintained by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, is proud to support community-led activities like this.
“We love to see our space being used for health and well-being, and this group is a shining example of how self-organised activities can bring joy, connection, and vitality to our community.”

Join the Movement

No matter your age or ability, there’s something special about walking in good company. We’d love to hear from others across the Staffordshire Moorlands who are organising their own walks, nature meetups, or any other outdoor activities. Let’s celebrate the ways we stay healthy, connected, and inspired in our beautiful green spaces.
